5 Days Bhutan Tour

Once you arrive at the airport in Paro, our representative will welcome you and take you on an hour-long ride to Thimpu. Along the way, you will get an idea of Bhutan’s landscapes. You will be traveling along the Paro Chu and Thimphu Chu rivers.

If you find something along the way and want to capture it, we can do that; otherwise, our stop will be directly at the hotel at Thimpu. We will also visit the Tachog Lhakhang temple, a private monastery Thangtong Gyalpo’s descendants run. It is located 10 minutes away from the Paro Thimphu highway. You will cross a 900-year-old bridge to reach this temple, whose environment is peaceful and picturesque.

After reaching Thimphu, we will visit the Buddha Dordenma Statue, a 51-meter-tall golden statue atop a hill. Through its architectural wonder, cultural significance, and breathtaking views, the Buddha Dordenma Statue enriches and remarkable each visitor’s experience. Then, we will explore the National Memorial Chorten, built in memory of the third King, the father of modern Bhutan, His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.

Later in the evening, the guide will explain the next day’s itinerary and provide details about what to do, the items to carry, and restricted places.

Overnight at Thimpu.

Today, we will explore most of Thimphu’s top attractions and then drive to Punakha. After breakfast, we will first visit the Takin Sanctuary, known as Motithang Takin Preserve. Takin is Bhutan’s national animal, and it’s rare to see it outside this sanctuary. A further walk from this sanctuary gave us a fantastic view of Thimpu Valley. Later, we will visit the Folk Heritage Museum, where you will be intrigued to see the Bhutanese living traditions.

Continuing sightseeing, we stroll through the School of Arts and Crafts, where we will witness the traditional and beautiful Thangka paintings. Then, we will visit the Trashichhoe Dzong, known as Thimpu Dzong, a monastery and forest from the Middle Ages. It contains the King’s Throne room and most of the nation’s government departments. It is also the residence of Je Khenpo, the Chief Abbot.

Then, we will march towards the Punakha. We will stop at Dochula Pass (3100m) to witness the breathtaking Bhutanese Himalayan Ranges, including Bhutan’s highest mountain, Mount Gangkhar Puensum (7,570m) and Mount Masang Kang (7,194m). Here, you will witness the 108 chortens built by the Queen of Bhutan as a memorial. Crossing Dochula Pass, we will descend to reach Punakha.

Overnight at Punakha.

After breakfast, we will explore Punakha, a valley filled with natural beauty. We will see agricultural farmlands and the convergent Mo Chu and Po Chu rivers. We will hike for about an hour to reach the Khamsum Yueley Namgyal Chorten, built by Queen Mother Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuckan to block negative forces and provide spiritual protection and peace. Once you enter the Chorten, you will witness the statue of Vajrakilaya (15 feet tall), one of Kagyé’s eight deities. The use of the golden spire and labyrinthine wall patterns in this chorten resonates with Bhutan’s ancient traditions and art.

Later, we will visit the Punakha Dzong, “The Palace of Bliss and Happiness.” Built in 1637, it is Bhutan’s second oldest and largest dzong. The Punakha Dzong lies at the convergence point of the Mo Chu and Po Chu rivers, which adds attraction value to this dzong. Also, when you enter the dzong, you will witness vibrant murals and exquisitely carved woodwork.

Later, we will visit Chimi Lakhang, a temple believed to bestow fertility on couples. You will also witness the distinctive collection of phallus murals and statues. After visiting all the top attractions of Punakha, we then head back to Paro.

Overnight at Paro.

Today, we will visit Paro’s top attraction, Tiger’s Nest Monastery, also known as Paro Taktsang. This Taktsang is clung to the cliff (800m) above the Paro Valley. The first person to meditate in the cave close to this monastery was Guru Rimpoche, also known as Padhmasamvava, the second Buddha. It is believed that one of her disciples transformed herself into a Tigress and carried Guru Rinpoche in her back from Tibet to the current location, which gave the monastery its name. We will hike for about three hours to reach the monastery. Spending some time at the monastery, you will explore Bhutan’s rich culture and art, feel the spiritual power this monastery holds, and the natural beauty visible from this spot.

After returning from the monastery, we will visit the Ta Dzong National Museum, which was built in 1967 as a watchtower. Later, this watchtower is changed into a museum holding the nation’s beautiful postal stamps, thangka paintings, antiquities, and an enthralling collection of artworks.

Later in the evening, we will stroll around the settlements and enjoy the descent local Bhutanese foods.

Overnight at Paro.

We will have a decent morning breakfast and drive you to the airport, from where you will depart to your onward destination.
